Travel has always been important to us. We’ve seen the impact on a life when you meet someone who has never been outside of their home area. Which often equates to never being outside of their comfort zone. We have been lucky enough to not just travel but to live various places. The person I am when I left Hollywood, SC on March 2007 to the person I am right now are not the same people. While I’m fundamentally the same, what I thought I knew I found out, not only did I not know, I didn’t even have a rudimentary understanding of it.
My cousin is all about a minimalist lifestyle and while I can’t commit to that (I’m a sneaker head) I do want to put more of an emphasis on experiences over things. In 2015 I’ve begun that transition — we focused on doing more instead of sitting around and looking at our stuff. I want to share that with out child — a firm balance of wanting a thing but also the need for adventure and doing.
Do I have any idea of how to do this? Nope. I’m sure parents throughout history had these same thoughts. I’m optimistic that if we make it a focus we can achieve this.
Oh I celebrated a birthday yesterday — the wife surprised me with something wonderful. While I can’t disclose it on the blog; just know my wife is the greatest in the world. I’m 37 years old soon to be a father for the first time…I’m not behind I’m right on schedule.
